American Gangster Movie Review
The 1970’s themed, drug pumped, gangster flick American Gangster shattered its expectations at the box office in November, 2007. Denzel Washington stars as the drug kingpin Frank Lucas, who smuggles purer heroin from Southeast Asia to America in the coffins of fallen soldiers, consequently infuriating the New York Italian mobsters who counsel him. Lucas brands his stuff “Blue Magic”, and soon enough the bodies begin dropping like flies from its potency. Washington channels “Scarface” as the gun-happy mobster and compels a powerful performance, deceiving us into loving the bad guy, once again. Russell Crowe is Richie Roberts, the “honest” cop from New Jersey, who got his name for commendably turning in 1 million unmarked bills. Roberts gets place in charge of a task force focused solely on stopping the established drug trafficking empires in New York City and New Jersey. He soon finds that his target is the supplier of “Blue Magic”. The film illustrates Roberts’ quest to nailing Lucas, his accomplices, and his country brothers from North Carolina that he brought to the City to help move the product in addition to showing Lucas throughout his reign, struggles, and conflicts. Throughout the film, Lucas lives unaware of Roberts, and vice-versa, until he is seen at the Ali-Frazier fight mingling with mobsters, in seats closer than the Mafia, and wearing an extravagant chinchilla coat his wife insisted he’d have (far from the casual and conservative suits he lives in to evade unwanted attention). Lucas learned from his mentor (Bumpy Johnson) everything he knows and carries on the traditions and help in the community, the scene in which he gives out Christmas turkeys on a Harlem city block had everyone rooting for the bad guy. Even more so when enemies try to kill his wife Mrs. Puerto Rico, Eva. But indeed there is a downside. We are exposed to Roberts’ inner conflicts of divorcing his wife and struggling for custody of their son, which is baby-momma drama no one paid to see. Also, the movie is so long that most theaters provided an intermission an hour and a half in. On the bright side, American Gangster is beautifully delivered, including the rappers-turned-actors, and feeds our obsession with bad guys, drugs, and money. Nevertheless, a must see and two thumbs up.

Arielaaaa,
Good job ! , I loved the slight humor with the ” baby-momma drama” thing .. BRILLIANT!
I think you’ve pretty much got it down with writing movie review , there was a part in which it dragged on a little but thats about it .

Hey..
Love the article..
1st thing.. i know its kind of insignificant, but maybe if you changed the word bad guy to something similar, it would become less repetitive.
2nd… you should make paragraphs and indent. it gives the reader a sense of a shorter article and it gets less tedious to read (Even though yours is not tedious, im just saying in general!)
and that’s about it..
i must say .. this is a pretty amazing article..

How long is the movie? You give an idea thaqt it’s long, but exactly HOW long?
Not everybody has an obsession with drugs and bad guys.
Is it not a movie for certain people? Would some people not like it?

Hey
your article was realy good
the only thing that you could do to make it better is like making paragraphs & and then indenting them so it doesnt looks like just 1 long paragraph
and that pretty much it

Hey ….
I think your article is amazing…. the only thing is that somewhere along the middle it dragged on a bit and it lost my attention. I think that the despcription of the movie as a whole is great!=P

As a constant viewer of movie reviews here are some tips
1. Dont spoil anything about the movie tell only its main theme.
2. Make it shorter. My eyes glazed over a little about half way.
3. you didnt really tell me what you thout about the film, which is why i would read a review.
4. Split up into paragraphs. keep it organized

1. A synonym for bad guys…
2. I love the way you used the characters and actors names.
3. It’s a good article… don’t try to reveal as much information in the article, people might want to see it.

Good job at making it detailed.
* It seems long to read so maybe you want to put indentions or make it shorter.
3 Specific changes
*I dont see why this is necessary “and wearing an extravagant chinchilla coat his wife insisted he’d have (far from the casual and conservative suits he lives in to evade unwanted attention). ”
*Put how long the movie is
*

I LOVED IT!! it was really good
- You may want to shorten it a bit so you don’t lose the person’s attention.
- You spoiled the movie! haha
That’s all I have!

hey. ok i loved the beginning lines and the end!!! veryyyy good. the middle seemed to just be a filler kind of? i think that maybe when you were writing it, you started to summarize the movie. overall youre a really good reviwer.
alessiap2011 // December 12, 2007 at 6:21 pm
This is a really well written article. It definately made me want to see it.
Towards the middle you started talking about some scenes and you got a little too detailed which made me lose you.
Was there any other static or dynamic characters?
But overall you captured the whole idea of the movie and portrayed it wholey to the reader.
joselynm2009 // December 12, 2007 at 6:23 pm
Its good but i think you need to write more about the basics and your opinion on the article rather than summarize it because it does kinda ruin pieces for the readers who havent seen it yet. Im not sure on the protocal for reviews but thats what i think.
and in this sentence…
The film illustrates Roberts’ quest to nailing Lucas it should be roberts quest to nail lucas
but overall it ws really good=D
nice hilighter shoes lol
