Broward schools try to remove fear factor for freshmen

Who – Broward Schools and it’s 21,000 entering freshmen.

What – Freshmen are being isolated from the rest of their high school’s population to ensure they receive the “extra help developing independent learning skills”.

When – The program, along with the “freshmen academies”, were initiated this Monday, August 20, 2007.

Where – Broward County Public High Schools

Why – “90% of freshmen that repeat their first year dropout” and the alarming statistics have the made this solution a necessicity to keep freshmen interested in school from their early beginnings.

How – Most schools have the students in different buildings, or even off of the main campus and placed in “academies” and class teams to keep them together to bond.

 Broward takes intiative with their 21,000 entering freshmen and help them succeed by placing them in their own buildings, away from the upperclassmen, to aid them in adjusting to the high school experience during their essential first year.
